Marin Institute monitors state and federal legislative activity in three alcohol policy areas: Taxes (including budget proposals), Alcopops, and Advertising. We regularly identify and track bills using a service called Statescape, as well as state legislature websites. When a majority of state legislatures are in session, we conduct updates every 1-2 weeks; at other times, we update the information every 2-3 weeks. Please consult your own state legislature’s website for the most current and accurate information.

Legislative Activity: Taxes 2010 Bills introduced for the 2010 legislative session. Some states allow for bills to be introduced before the beginning of a session through a procedural mechanism known as pre-filing. Some states give priority or other advantages to prefiled bills. Legislative work on the bills will not occur until the session begins. Also, new bills may also be introduced in states with two-year legislative sessions. |
Legislative Activity: Taxes 2009-2010 Bills introduced in 2009. Some states have legislative sessions that span two calendar years instead of beginning and ending during a single calendar year. All of the currently listed 2009 Bills were introduced in states with two-year legislative sessions. Although these bills are not currently active, procedural mechanisms may allow for work on the bills to continue. Thus, we monitor these bills until decisive legislative action is taken or the session ends. |
