Report: Control State Politics: How Big Alcohol is Dismantling Regulation State by State

Alcohol Justice (formerly Marin Institute) has published a new report on one of the biggest potential threats to public health policy: Big Alcohol's efforts to privatize alcohol sales, efforts bolstered by powerful corporations and misguided politicians. The report describes the likely outcomes to states that sell their liquor stores and license private businesses to sell alcohol. While these states may experience a short-term windfall, the report found that in the longer term, the states' loss of a reliable income stream, coupled with the inevitable increase in outlet density, consumption, and alcohol-related injuries and violence, will result in the significant harm to the public’s health and economic stability.
